An eight-year-old girl was shot dead while watching TV and 22-year-old man was seriously wounded in a shooting incident on Monday evening.

The drama unfolded at a house in Gxiya Street, Browns Farm near Nyanga, when three unknown men entered the house while the victims were watching TV in the living room.

One of the suspects then held them at gunpoint and in the process a fight broke out between the gunmen and the young man.

“The suspects fired several shots at eight-year old girl who sustained a gunshot wound to the head. The 22-year old sustained a gunshot wound to his right side of his body,” says police spokesperson Randall Stoffels.

“Both victims were taken to hospital for treatment, but the eight-year old victim passed away due to a head injury sustained,” says Stoffels.

The suspects fled the scene on foot and are still at large.

Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
