An arrest has been made for the murder of eight-year-old Asiphe Ketani. Police arrested an 18-year-old man from Nyanga on Wednesday in connedction with the murder of the little girl.
“It can be confirmed that the young man is known to the family and through leads and a thorough investigation, the police were able to make an arrest,” says police spokesperson Randall Stoffels.
The girl was shot dead while watching television in her home at Brown’s Farm, near Nyanga on Monday night, when she and a 22-year-old relative were attacked by three armed men.
Ketani was hit in the head by a bullet. She later later died in hospital, while her 22-year-old relative sustained a gun shot to his side.
“We are glad that we were able to get a positive breakthrough in the case and we are hopeful for more arrests,” says Stoffels.
The suspect is to appear appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, July 19.
