Police made an arrest on Friday morning at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront during a sting operation for the alleged selling of unpolished diamonds.

The two suspects aged 29 and 30, both Angolans, showed stones to a man which looked similar to diamonds in a restaurant at the Waterfront.

“Police who were observing the alleged sale, moved in and confiscated the 13 stones,” says police spokesperson, Inspector Bernadine Steyn.

Steyn added that police are in the process of establishing whether it was diamonds, as well as its value.

“Both suspects are expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s court on Monday,” says Steyn.
