Two men were arrested in relation to the illegal trade of wine on a farm in Paarl yesterday.
“During a joint operation between the South African Police Service, the South African Revenue Service and the Department of Agriculture, the men aged 35 and 38 were successfully arrested during a meticulous investigation,” says police spokesperson Inspector Bernadine Steyn.
She says during the raid, police confiscated wine worth millions of rands and chemicals for the manufacturing of these wines.
“Two firearms were also seized as well as 24 rounds. It is believed that the wines were distributed to shebeens in various townships,” says Steyn.
The two men were expected to appear in the Paarl Magistrate’s court soon.
