The 23-year-old man, who stands accused of the murder of his parents, was released from hospital on Monday and is appearing in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court today.

Police say they believe he is responsible for the shooting that occurred at his family home in Avondale Terrace, Diep River on the 10th of July.

That same evening police received a telephonic complaint of a shooting incident in the area.

“On arrival the body of his 53-year-old father was found in a chair in the lounge with several gunshot wounds to the head.

His 56-year-old mother was also found with several gunshot wounds to the head,” says police spokesperson Bernadine Steyn.
Even though his mother was still alive on the scene, she later died in hospital.

“Their 23-year-old son was found with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to hospital in a serious condition,” says Steyn.
A revolver was found on the floor next to the man. The firearm was allegedly taken earlier that day by the son at a friend’s house.

“The motive for the family shooting seems to be of a personal nature,” says Steyn.
