The African National Congress says it condemns the protests by residents which had closed down the N2 near Langa on Monday. The party says that people should protest within the law.
Provincial Secretary of the ANC, Mcebisi Skwatsha says it’s unacceptable that the N2 was closed down.
"We call on the community to engage in meaningful dialogue with government on the challenges of relocation and the housing backlog. The community must accept that in order to build acceptable accommodation in Langa, members of the community will have to be moved to Temporary Residence Area’s," says Skwatsha
The ANC says it has an open door policy and that people should negotiate with them and the government and also understand that the community has grievances when it comes to housing.
"Much more needs to be done. It can’t be done in circumstances where there is a community acting outside of the law," says spokesperson for the ANC Garth Strachan.
