Cricket South Africa (CSA), on Thursday announced the selection of fast bowler André Nel as the replacement for Loots Bosman in the Proteas for the ICC World Twenty20, starting in Johannesburg next week.
“The T20 squad was selected before the tour of Zimbabwe and, as most critics have mentioned, the bowling department looked a bit under-done and we feel that this is the area of the team that needed to be strengthened,” says selection convenor Joubert Strydom.
CSA president Norman Arendse, says that although it remained the policy of the board to include seven players of colour in the squad of 15 players, these were targets not quotas.
“ Quotas are set in stone while targets are something to strive for. The selectors have convinced me that there are logical and rational reasons for opting for Nel, “ says Arendse.
