BASE JUMPER RESCUED

A Metro SA Red Cross Air Mercy Service Helicopter rescued a 20-year-old Rhodes University student on Table Mountain who was base jumping in order to raise R50 000 for charity.

Due to mist on the mountain and dangerous weather conditions The Metro SA Red Cross Air Mercy Service Helicopter hoisted Wilderness Search & Research rescuers to the top of the mountain till below cloud level.

“The patient is in stable condition and is currently being treated by a medical doctor on the mountain,” said Metro SA Red Cross Air Mercy Service’s Vanessa Horn.

The SA Red Cross Air Mercy Service is a non-profit organisation operating in the Western Cape, Northern Cape, Kwa-Zulu and the Mpumalanga Provinces, providing an air ambulance network, rural health outreach and emergency rescue services to metropolitan areas and remote rural communities.
