The mother of a newborn baby has been placed under police guard in hospital after her baby boy was found with stab wounds in a refuse bag under her bed in Voorbrug, Delft.

Delft police opened a case of murder after the baby was found by the mother’s boyfriend on Tuesday.

“Apparently early Monday evening a 22-year-old pregnant female complained of stomach pains to her boyfriend, he then took her to hospital where she was immediately admitted,” says police spokesperson Billy Jones.

Jones says when the boyfriend returned home he noticed their cat was scratching in a refuse bag under the bed. When he looked closer he saw the body of a baby inside the bag. His girlfriend was still in hospital at that time.

“The baby had stab and cut wounds to the chest and stomach. Detectives also found a blood stained knife inside the bedroom which will be sent for forensic testing,” says Jones.

The mother of the baby is till in the intensive unit under police guard.

“Currently the woman will be regarded as a suspect,” says Jones.
