Sunday the 16th of September has been declared International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer.
This is to honour the day the Montreal Protocol was signed for the first time. South Africa became a member of the treaty in January 1990.
The agreement was put in place merely to control the production and the use of ozone-depleting substances.
This year is the 20th anniversary of the protocol and delegates from different countries are to meet in Montreal to reflect on the development that has taken place thus far.
