Cricket all rounder, Jacques Kallis says he is standing by his decision to give up the vice-captaincy of the national side, but that this would not change his commitment to South African cricket.
“When Jacques accepted the vice-captaincy two years ago at the start of Mickey Arthur’s term as national coach it was always on the basis that he would see how he enjoyed the extra responsibility of the position and that he would review it after a suitable period,” says Cricket South Africa (CSA) CEO, Gerald Majola.
Majola says Kallis has now decided that he would rather concentrate on his own game and CSA respects his decision.
“We will now start the process of appointing a replacement vice-captain in consultation with the selectors, the national coach and the national captain,” says Majola.
Kallis says he will always be willing to help others as he has before as the senior batsman in the Proteas squad.
“I just want to become the best player I can possibly be,” says Kallis.
