METRO POLICE DENIES BREAKING UP OH HAWKER STALLS

By Henry Booysen
11 September

This morning The Gatesville Hawkers Association accused the Metro Police of breaking up vendor stalls in the Gatesville area outside Elite Supermarket. Metro Police have responded by saying that what happened was caused by the Law Enforcement and not Metro Police officials.

The Association says that they have been operating in the Gatesville area for more than 20 years already and often while they are slaving away trying to earn a hard living the authorities attack them.

“Prior to the decision taken by the City of Cape Town to separate the three services, which is mainly, the Metro Police, Law Enforcement and Traffic, unfortunately Law Enforcement and Traffic are still using Metro Police marked vehicles, and this has caused confusion in communities,” said Kevin Maxwell, director of the Metro Police.

Meanwhile the Gatesville hawkers claim that Helen Zille is restricting them in trying to make a living, and they do not deserve police brutality.
