Police in Kraaifontein arrested the 30-year-old mother of a 2-year-old little girl yesterday for child negligence.
Police responded after receiving a call from a resident in the area who reported that a child was crying behind the electric box at the North Pine area on Tuesday afternoon.
"We then started searching for the parents of the child and only Wednesday morning she arrived at the police station.
After consulting with the senior prosecutor of Kuilsriver Magistrate’s court, a decision was taken to arrest her," says Police spokesperson Captain Elliot Siyangana.
Siyangana says the little girl was taken to a doctor for a medical check up and she was then taken to a foster parent by a social worker.
"She has been charged with child neglect and is due to appear in court today," says Siyangana.
