Helderberg “Park-N-Ride” project seeks to ease commuter blues

The City of Cape Town’s Travel Demand Management Strategy says it identified the “Park-N-Ride” as an idea to ease traffic jams by providing opportunities to commuters to move over to less expensive and more convenient ways to reach their destination.
The initiative will take place in the Helderberg area.
“With the ever increasing price of petrol and the opportunity provided by the opening of the N2 BMT lane we felt it an opportune time to create opportunities that will enable commuters to experience the benefits of the BMT lane and save money,” the Mayco Member for Transport, Roads and Stormwater, Elizabeth Thompson.
Those who have their own vehicles will be able to park it in a safe environment and then be able to use public transport to and from work.
“For far away areas like the Helderberg, where people can just get unto the bus and go to town on the N2 BMT lane and in the evening getting home would also be much quicker,” says spokesperson for the Transport Department Ester Moag.
