The People against Suffering Suppression Oppression and Poverty (PASSOP) will be holding a 24 hour protests outside the refugee office of Home Affairs in the Cape Town city centre starting on Sunday at 8pm.
Braam Hannekom spokesperson for the group says the picket will be held to get attention drawn to the long queues and difficulties asylum seekers have to go through.
“On Sunday night we will be starting a picket in front of Home Affairs where foreign students including some from America and Norway will be sleeping outside in solidarity with 63 illegal Zimbabweans immigrants who have been sleeping outside of Home Affairs for up to two years,” says Braam Hannekom.
He added that the Zimbabweans immigrants had not been served and would stand in the long queues for long periods.
“Some have been waiting four months straight in the queues. On Monday we will be holding demonstrations outside of Home Affairs to further show there disapproval of the service,” says Hannekom.
