The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) says that it fully supports the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) plan to petition parliament to revise the laws of floor crossing which allows members of national and provincial political parties to cross over to another political party without losing their seats in parliament.
According to a statement released by the SAHRC, the head of the IEC told reporters that the IEC does not support floor crossing and that it plan to petition to review the legislation.
The SAHRC says the floor crossing process undermines the political rights of citizens who voted.
