After a high-speed car chase and a shootout police arrested three suspects in connection with housebreaking and motor vehicle theft at a Cape Town house this morning.

This follows after members of the Flying squad responded shortly after 9am alerting other patrol vehicles to be on the look-out for a blue BMW. The car was then spotted travelling at high speed among Borcherds Quarry Road by a police patrol vehicle.

“Allegations against the suspects are that they burgled the house, loaded items into the car belonging to the homeowner before driving away. As various patrol vehicles closed in on the fleeing suspects, one of them produced a firearm and shot several times at the police,” says police Constable Siphokaza Mawisa

At the corners of Lansdowne and New Eisleben roads the car the suspects were driving in came to a standstill, two suspects fled on foot and one stayed behind firing away at police.

All the suspects were apprehended and nobody was wounded. The suspects are scheduled to appear in the Cap Town Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
