14 year-old boy bitten by shark in the Strand

Last night a 14 year-old boy, Andrew Smith, from the Strand was bitten by a shark while surfing at the Strand at a beach called “die punt”.

“He managed to break free of the shark and got safely to shore where a local where a local doctor treated him on the scene. He has punctured bite marks to both his feet but is in a stable and satisfactory condition, “says National Sea Rescue Institute spokesperson, Craig Lambinon.

NSRI are appealing to surfers and bathers to be cautious in that particular area, a shark working group will be sending shark spotters to Strand to warn people in the area to be cautious.

“A shark specialist will investigate the teeth marks on Andrew to find out what type of shark it was,” says Lambinon.
