The African Christian Democratic Party says the government must clear up the misperception in the UN on the nation’s stance on rape.

They are concerned that South Africa is allowing the perception that the South African government is attempting to weaken the resolution. This resolution of the United Nations General Assembly is to condemn rape as a weapon of war.

"The ACDP is outraged at ongoing military and civilian rape and calls on South Africa’s ambassador to the U.N. to make the nation's stance on the rape issue very clear and to clarify where the contention lies," says spokesperson Cheryllyn Dudley.

In the conventions, South Africa had actually taken a strong stance against rape and violence against women. The ACDP is outraged about the ongoing military and civilian rape.

"Any perception that the South African government is soft on rape must be thoroughly quashed," says Dudley.
