On Saturday the Premier’s Spouse’s Fund in partnership with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and Sekunjalo Investments Limited, donated instruments and funds to the amount of R110 000, to the Athlone Academy of Music.
Of the R110 000, R20 000 was donated in the form of instruments.
“It’s a boost for the school which came into existence in 1994 and have been really battling to maintain itself through this period.
I think it’s the beginning of huge partnerships for the future where the school can become more sustainable and provide music education for kids who are vulnerable to the scourges of gangsterism, drugs and crime on the Cape Flats,” says Director of Communication Programmes, Monsoor Jaffer.
About 300 parents, students, government officials and community members attended the event where various musical performances were also on show
