Today at the Zenzele Training Centre in Khayelitsha the national Department of Public Works and the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works will launch an electronic initiative which aims to reduce unemployment on the Cape Flats.
Currently there a roughly between 300 000 and 600 000 unemployed people on the Western Cape, the initiative which will be called the Umsebenzi Jobs Portal seeks to reduce this number.
Unemployed people and employers will have access to the portal at 115 locations across the province. At the points those who are unemployed will be taught how to register, place in their CV’s and how to update their details.
The initiative has been recognised as critical in tackling South Africa’s high unemployment rate.
The launch will be attended by Public Works Minister Thoko Didiza and MEC for Transport and Public Works Marius Fransman.
