The National Union of Mineworkers of South Africa has welcomed the offer of the Department of Labour to train health and safety shop stewards.
The Department announced this week that it will train 50 Numsa representatives on health and safety implementation in the Kwazulu-Natal.
“The initiative to carry out trainings in the iron and steel industries was taken by the department in Kwazulu-Natal. We are humbled of the department willingness to roll out the training en to ensure the cooperation with the unions to monitor the health and safety measures at workplaces,” says Numsa health and Safety coordinator Puleng Mminele.
The union hopes that the department will also roll out trainings for representatives in other provinces as well as the incidents and accidents are not confined to Kwazulu-Natal alone.
