On Saturday thousands of farmworkers across the country protested against the recent deaths of farmworkers and poor working and living conditions under which they are subjected to.
The marches took place in Paarl, Upington, Ficksburg, Groblersdal, Rustenberg and Port Elizabeth.
“The memorandum was presented at Groblersdal where there were about 800 people. About 1100 people attended the Upington march in the Northern Cape and plus minus 1600 people in Ficksburg, Freestate.
In Port Elizabeth the march was not well attended and between 300 hundred people were there whereas in Brits, plus minus 200 people marched, “says Food and Allied Workers Union, General secretary Katishi Masemola.
