The strike intended to hit all 2010 projects today has been called off due to employers of Moses Mabhida agreeing to meet their workers’ demands.
The National Union of Mineworkers and the employers held talks since last Wednesday as a result of the march to Ethekwini Municipality.
“We have stopped the strike in conjunction with the employers at Moses Mabhida in the sense that the employers have actually agreed to give workers what they’ve been looking for,” says NUM national spokesperson, Lesiba Seshoka
The employers agreed to employ of a fulltime Safety Officer, award project bonuses to the amount of R800 as well as a R2000 Christmas bonus in addition to the R4000 at the end of the contract in May 2008.
“We believe that is a very great achievement for us and we have no reason to be on strike or to call a strike action, says Leshoka.
