Traffic volumes are expected to peak on the country’s roads as holiday-makers travel to their various destinations.

With traffic authorities already on full alert, multi-purpose roadblocks have been set up to deal with road offenses.

In a statement released by the national transport department, peak holiday traffic is often more dangerous than everyday traffic.

“Traffic authorities in the Western Cape will deploy additional officials on the province's roads in anticipation of heavy traffic volumes this weekend,” says traffic department spokesperson, Kalvin Visser.

“We appeal to all people to exercise caution as their will be roadblocks on our city’s roads,” says Visser.

Motorists are encouraged to be aware that holiday traffic demands more as roads are busier and road users are more hurried than usual.
