Private insurance claims are expected to climb to a R100 million following the recent flooding in the Southern Cape.

Lollie Lamprecht, one of the affected residents from Klein Brak River near Mossel Bay says the damage to her house is estimated at more than R100 000. Lamprecht says she will never be able to replace sentimental items such as photo albums according to SABC news.

Rudi Laws, the Executive Mayor of the Eden District Municipality in the Southern Cape, has reassured tourists planning to visit the area this holiday season that they are open for business. The area had been ravaged by floods.

Laws says he is satisfied with the manner in which disaster management teams responded in flood hit areas. He says all the major routes - including the N2 and the Garden Route - are open to traffic.
