Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Mzwandile Petros has conveyed his condolences to the family and colleagues of Director Vusi Tiyo who died in his sleep in Wynberg on Monday evening.
Director Tiyo, 45, was appointed Provincial Head of Protection and Security Services (formerly VIP Unit) in the Western Cape early this year.
“Director Tiyo’s death leaves a void in the Province as he had played a meaningful and strategic role in management issues, says Petros.
According to Petros, Tiyo was passionate about policing and not so long ago participated in crime prevention operations in his home town of Mbekweni.
“He will be sorely missed as a dedicated and disciplined officer in the SAPS,” he added.
“He also served on the SAPS Western Cape Executive Committee for 2010, where his expertise on security issues came through,” says Director of Communication, SAPS Novela Potelwa .
Director Tiyo leaves behind his wife, Janice and children. The funeral service will take place at the Baptist Church in Mbekweni on Saturday 22 December 2007.
