At the 52nd African National Congress national conference in Polokwane, ANC’s deputy president Jacob Zuma was greeted with a huge cheer when he arrived to vote in the leadership battle at the party’s national conference.
The three-thousand-900 eligible delegates are still voting after some of them started queuing before dawn on the third day of the conference.
The process should have started at six this morning but was delayed for almost three hours due to computer problems.
With all eyes on Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma, an interesting battle for the post of Deputy President is raging between current party Secretary-General Kgalema Motlanthe and Foreign Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma according to an AllAfrica.
Observers say if Jacob Zuma should become ANC president, the possibility remains that he could still be charged with corruption. That could open up the way for Motlanthe or Dlamini Zuma to take over the party leadership, and possibly the leadership of the country, depending on who becomes ANC deputy president today.
