On Monday the Heideveld Housing Office staff had the unfortunate experience of returning to work — only to discover that their office had been burgled over the weekend.
It is believed that the thieves entered the housing office through the roof and severely damaged the property.
“They took the computer equipment as well as the cash receiving equipment which makes it very difficult to deliver a service to that community,” says City of Cape Town spokesperson Johanna Francis.
Francis says the office will be closed until repair work has been completed and the equipment replaced.
“The Heideveld people can go to their immediate housing office which is in Mannenberg or the Athlone housing office and the Civic Centre,” says Francis.
Hans Smit the City’s Executive Director of housing says that the City will make the repairs of the office a top priority.
“We regret the inconvenience caused to our customers,” Smit says.
