A teenager was fatally wounded on Wednesday afternoon following a shooting incident which broke out after trying to rob two people parked on the N2 highway near Khayelitsha.

According to police two men in a White Mazda stopped at the side of the road after which the passenger of the vehicle got out and walked to a nearby house leaving the driver waiting.

“On the passenger’s return three men on foot approached and tried to rob him firing several shots at him during which he returned fire,” says police spokesperson Inspector Bernadine Steyn.

Steyn added that a 19 year-old suspect died on the scene after sustaining gunshot wounds to the neck and back while the 42-year-old man from Paarl was treated at a nearby hospital for a gunshot wound to the right arm.

An Attempted murder and Attempted Robbery case docket has been opened with regard to the attack on the 42 year old man and an inquest case docket for the deceased.
