Yesterday afternoon at 1:40pm a 55 year-old truck driver was killed when his body was flung from his vehicle after it collided with another truck on the N1.
According to traffic Spokesperson, Searle Johannes the driver who died was in the left lane and wanted to take the Marine Drive turn off to Paarden Eiland when he saw traffic was stationary in front of him and swerved into the middle lane, colliding with the other truck.
The two trucks collided with each other and on impact the driver of the truck was flung from the vehicle.
“Being dislodged from the cab he landed in the right hand lane on the N1 just before Lower Church Street and we assume it’s because he was not wearing a safety belt,” says Johannes.
Another two other vehicles, a Toyota RunX and a Quantum were also struck as secondary collisions however all the occupants including the other truck driver escaped without any injuries.
The incident was believed to have caused major peak hour traffic.
