On Sunday morning the Hout Bay National Sea Resue Institute was alerted to assist a ten metre fishing trawler, Amalusi reported to have rapidly drifted towards dungeons 1 nautical mile South of Vulkan Rock.
Ten crew members on board tried in vain to motor the boat away from danger by using a rope wrapped around the propeller.
NSRI launched two rescue crafts, MTU Nadine Gordimer and Queenie Payne.
“On arrival on scene rescuers found the vessel moving backwards towards dungeons at approximately three knots. One knot was made to try and steer it away from danger,” says NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon.
“The tow line was rigged and the rescue craft towed Ama lusi along with it’s crew safely out to Hout Bay’s harbour, ”says Lambinon.
No one was injured during the rescue.
