A Cape Town police constable has been arrested for allegedly hijacking a car he was test-driving on Friday afternoon.

According to police the 25-year old constable based at the Nyanga police station allegedly threatened a car salesman at gunpoint, ordering him to get out of the VW Golf.

The salesman alerted nearby police members at the Lansdowne police station.

“Police followed up and found the constable near Manenberg and arrested him. He is currently in custody,” says police spokesperson, Captain Elliot Sinyangana.

The suspect is due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s court on Monday on charges of robbery with aggravated circumstances.
