Eskom has confirmed that they have increased their coal stockpiles at power stations to an average of thirteen days.
The electricity giant announced that they have secured 45 million tons of coal over two years to contest the coal shortages at its coal fired power generating power stations.
Their spokesperson Brian Dames said that of the five power stations with the lowest stockpile only one remained below the required level.
“There is no station that has less than five days of coal at the power station,” he said.
He elaborated that Eskom’s recovery team is confident that the increasing stock level of 20 days would be reached by winter.
“The coal stockpile days is a strategic priority and is receiving a high level focus. We are working at bringing the stockpile days to 20 as soon as possible, and will maintain this thereafter,” Dames.
