Police have been heavily criticised about the manner in which they conducted raids at popular nightspots at Stellenbosch University the weekend.
The raids which took place at the Bohemia, Die Mystic Boer and Springbok pubs in the early hours of Saturday morning was part of the police’s anti-drugs blitz, but this has rather left many patrons and owners disgruntled and are considering legal action against the law enforcers.
According to a student at the university police were manhandling students and even went as far as to sexually violate some women.
“It was brutal and horrific,” says the student.
Police spokesperson Captain Elliot Sinyangana has confirmed the raids and says drugs were found at the respective scenes.
“A number of students have laid charges at Stellenbosch University and that will be investigated thoroughly,” he says.
