Dale Steyn, South Africa’s newest bowlers has been named player of the series in the recent Bangladesh Test series.
He is proud his name is now being bracketed with some of the world's best. South Africa swept the series against Bangladesh, 2-0 with Steyn taking 14 wickets.
Steyn said on Thursday that he is honoured to be put in the same bracket as Muttiah Muralitharan, Glen McGrath, Shaun Pollock or Shane Bond is remarkable.
In 20 tests the 24-year-old Titans bowler has taken 105 wickets. According to International Cricket Council’s statistics this has earned him a rating of 893 points to Sri Lankan Muralitharan’s 907.
A daily newspaper reports Steyn as saying that it means things are going as planned and that he is enjoying his cricket, which is good.
Steyn said conditions in Banfladesh had made it difficult to take wickets there, as well in Sri Lanka and India.
He goes onto say that those wickets are not exactly the same in South Africa, which are bouncy and pretty quick. So it's quite pleasing to win man-of-the-series in Bangladesh and then also be the top wicket taker.
He thinks they tried to hit every ball for four, especially after they saw South Africa score nearly 600 runs on a pitch that looked easy to score runs on. He says it wasn't.
Every ball cannot be hit for four says Steyn.
