Parliament has said in a statement that they would like to see government speed up its efforts of minimising child deaths and improving maternal health.
“The issue of better maternal health care is a global issue which is going to be discussed at the 118th Inter-Preliminary Union Assembly which will be held in Cape Town in April,” says Head of Media Management at Parliament, Vuyelwa Qinga-Vika.
Qinga-Vika adds that this appeal forms part of what the millennium developmental goals have set as some of the achievements, that the entire world has to achieve by 2015.
“There are a lot of deaths related to less than perfect maternal health care for women. This affects women and children and is a serious issue,” says Qinga-Vika.
