Robin Peterson has retained his place in the Protea Test squad for the tour of India later this month.
Peterson whose best is, 5/33 in South Africa’s innings victory over Bangladesh in the second test at Chittagong, will be part of the tour which consists of three tests at Chennai, Ahmedabad and Kanpur.
These tests will effectively decide which team is the second-ranked side in the world behind Australia in the five-day game.
In the 11th hour Peterson has replaced Paul Harris who had to undergo surgery.
His good form sees him joining Harris in the spin attack for the Indian tour with Johan Botha being the unlucky player had to drop out.
The second change to the 14-man squad is Charl Langeveldt has been preferred to Andre Nel in the seam attack. Langeveldt has played six Test matches for South Africa, the last of these being against Australia at Sydney in January, 2006.
Meanwhile
Cricket South Africa has acceded to a request from the Proteas team management to rest all the regular members of the Test squad touring India from the semi-finals and final of the Domestic Championship.
JP Duminy and Charl Langeveldt will be the exceptions in the squad to tour India as neither has played this summer any Test cricket.
The same applies to Makhaya Ntini and Ashwell Prince.
Contracted players, who have not been chosen for the tour of India, will all be available for matches.
Therefore Ntini and Peterson, who is not a contracted player and has only played one Test this summer, can turn out for the Warriors in Friday’s semi-final against the Diamond Eagles at Sahara Oval St. George’s.
The Cape Cobras will be able to call up Prince, Duminy, Langeveldt and Herschelle Gibbs for Sunday’s semi-final against the Titans at SuperSport Park, while the Titans will have Andre Nel and Albie Morkel at their disposal.
Test squad:
Graeme Smith
Ashwell Prince
Hashim Amla
Mark Boucher
AB de Villiers
JP Duminy
Paul Harris
Jacques Kallis
Charl Langeveldt
Neil McKenzie
Morne Morkel
Makhaya Ntini
