Four posters to market Cape Town as a 2010 FIFA World Cup™ Host City have been short listed from 89 entries.

The two designers who each submitted two poster designs are 24-year-old, Janece Frick from Parow and 29-year-old Pierre Smith from Cape Town.

The poster finalists were announced on Thursday as well as the announcement of the fourth anniversary of the awarding of the 2010 FIFA World CupTM to South Africa.

Each finalist will receive R10 000 and the winner will receive an additional R10 000 to be paid after the winning poster is confirmed later this year.

"This poster competition, the enthusiasm it has generated and the winning poster that will be used, are all integral to our ongoing strategy of drawing all Capetonians into the spirit and success of the 2010 FIFA World CupTM.

Each member of the public has an important role to play in ensuring that Cape Town is ready to host the best 2010 FIFA World Cup it can, thus securing a sustainable legacy for us all," says the City`s Executive Deputy Mayor, Cllr Grant Haskin.

Members of the public will be able to vote for the four posters by SMS from 19 May until 30 May. A lucky voter will receive two tickets to a South African Group match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ sponsored by MTN.

"The poster adjudication also decided to award two additional "Fair Play" (A FIFA theme) prizes of R2 500 each to Cedar High School (Ronal Gillfellow and Darryl Arendse, both Grade 10) and Northpine Primary School (Shuayb Salie, Dino Messelaar, Darren September, Alrico Paulse, Rudi Pedie – all Grade 6)," says Teral Cullen, the City’s 2010 Co-ordinator.

"We are happy with the response to the competition and the quality of the shortlisted posters. As we are the "Leading destination in Africa" we should have the leading World Cup Poster," says Cullen.

All nine of the South African host cities each have been given the chance to create a full colour poster to promote and position themselves ahead of the international soccer tournament.
The nine Host City winners will be announced nationally by FIFA in September.

"The winning colour poster must capture the essence of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, highlighting distinctive features and unique attributes. The winning design will be reproduced in various sizes ranging from murals on buildings to lapel pin size,” says Cullen.
