MEC for Local Government and housing Richard Dyanti will be meeting the beneficiaries of houses who will be relocated to the Barndale Farm in Mfuleni today.
The relocation which was supposed to take place in December 2007 was delayed due to resistance from the Mfuleni Joint Committee. The beneficiaries who will be relocated to the Barndale Farm are victims of flooded areas, wet lands and those living along railway lines in Khayelitsha.
"The department with the city of Cape Town is trying to address the issue and the alternative land in the Barndale area has been identified as a possible area where these residents can be relocated to," says spokesperson for the MEC Vusi Tshoshe.
In today's meeting with the beneficiaries the MEC will listen and discuss the concerns regarding the relocation.
The meeting will take place at the O.R Tambo Sports Complex in Khayelitsha
