Constable found with gunshot wound to his cheek

A Stellenbosch policeman who was off duty was found with a gunshot wound to the face at the weekend.
This follows after a resident in the area of Luyolo street in Kayamandi Stellenbosch heard a shot being fired and alerted the police.
“Police were notified of the gunshot from the house of the 26 year old constable,” says Police spokesperson Billy Jones.
Jones said that when police entered the house they found the constable lying on his bed with a gunshot wound to his cheek.
“They also found his official firearm lying next to him.”
Jones added that the constable was taken to hospital and is currently in a stable condition.
“We have opened up a case docket of discharge for firing in a municipal area and are now investigating the motive as well as the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
