Hospital Bends lanes closed temporarily

Between 20:00 on Saturday 7 June and 04:00 on Sunday 8 June some inbound lanes at Hospital Bend (N2 right hand lane, and M3 inbound left hand lanes) will be closed to traffic for major road works.

The two middle lanes will remain open.

“This will be the first time that lanes will be closed completely since the extensive upgrade commenced. This is unavoidable as the contractor needs to remove an existing road sign gantry, and erect a temporary pedestrian bridge at the old Anzio Road access,” says Henry du Plessis, the City's Director: Road and Stormwater.

“Between the hours of 24:00 and 03:30 there will be two 15 minute closures of all inbound lanes while sign gantries and the temporary pedestrian bridge are lifted into place. Due to the nature of the activities, the exact time of these closures cannot be predicted.

He adds that the contractor is undertaking this operation at night in order to minimise any inconvenience and disruption to motorists. We urge motorists to drive carefully in the construction areas. Temporary information signs will be erected on either side of the road.

Elizabeth Thompson, the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Roads & Stormwater says that this important 2010 transport legacy project is due for completion by March 2010

The Hospital Bend upgrade, which will ease traffic flow onto the N2 and southern suburbs, includes the widening of carriageways, the construction of new bridges, the rehabilitation of the existing roadway, and improvements to stormwater drainage and street lighting.
