METRO Police today arrested two suspects in a hijacking investigation which saw one of their colleagues abducted at the weekend, assaulted over a period of hours and his girlfriend threatened with a firearm at her home.

Metro Police spokesman, Nowellen Petersen, said the hi-jacked policeman was lucky to be alive and appealed to the public to always be vigilant and to try, where possible, not to go out alone at night.

“After being hi-jacked Constable S C Holmes was continually assaulted and then forced to withdraw money from his bank account.

“The five hi-jackers then called his girlfriend and told her that they were friends of his and that he was too drunk to drive. She gave them directions. The hi-jackers then bound Constable Holmes, put him in the boot of his car and drove to her home in Blackheath.

“The woman became suspicious when she did not recognise the person at the door and, when he pointed a firearm at her, she fled to a neighbour’s house.”

Constable Holmes was later released in Nyanga and managed to make his way to the local police station.

This morning, Metro Police officers spotted the hijacked vehicle in Main Rd, Newlands and two of the men in the car are being held at the Goodwood Police Station as suspects in the case.
