Trade union Cosatu was outraged when they heard the news of the closure of the world-renowned Centre for Civil Society (CSS) in December this year.
The reasons for the closure is said to be lack of permanent funding.
National spokesperson for Cosatu, Patrick Craven, said Cosatu has expressed their concern and believes that the organisation ahs played an important role in “analysing and researching the role of civil society in South Africa.”
“As a representative of the biggest section of society, the working class, Cosatu feels it’s very important that organisations like this should be encouraged and promoted.”
Craven said it’s unacceptable to accept the argument of lack of funding for the staff.
