Robben Island has been rocked by another scandal after three top executives were suspended after charges relating to the mismanagement of millions of rands.
The ID’s Simon Grindrod, Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee member for Economic Development and Tourism, is calling on National and Provincial government to get the police involved in the Robben Island museum fiasco.
“Clearly there has been huge mismanagement, fraud and corruption at the Robben Island Museum which has been allowed to continue for several years.”
Grindrod said R25 million is missing from the books and senior management have given themselves 300% increase last year.
“This matter requires the intervention of the provincial government and the police urgently to protect this asset which belongs to all of the people of this country.”
