In a mayoral committee meeting revealed that not even railway lines are safe from thieves, the thieves have turned their attention from stealing copper cables to railway.
The thieves are suspected to sell the railway to scrap yard dealers and the city is reported to be coughing out huge amounts of money to replace the stolen infrastructure.
Mayoral committee member for Housing Dan Plato told that there is a market for this trend and they must hunt down metal dealers who have bought stolen railway lines.
“These thefts are causing a severe impact to the infrastructure and service delivery to the community, the street lights are not functioning”
“And now the thieves have switched to the heavy stuff”
“We discussed on how to combat this issue, we came with a solution that we need to clamp down on dealers, there is definitely a market and if we can crackdown the market the theft can stop”.
