Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management remains on high alert as rain is predicted to persist for a few more days.
According to the South African Weather Service, Capetonians are to expect heavy rainfall today and showers continue tomorrow.
Disaster Risk Management spokesperson Charlotte Powell says they are preparing for flooding, mudslides and rock falls. The City’s relief services are still busy with mop up operations after at least 23 informal settlements across Cape Town had been badly hit.
“At least 1500 people from these settles have been affected and in terms of emergency sheltering we activated three community halls in Crossroads, Khayelitsha and Blackheath.”
Powell added that Disaster Risk Management and NGOs are providing relief with hot meals and blankets to the people affected by the flooding.
