African National Congress says the party’s national working committee believes that the decision to suspend the membership of its former chairperson Mosiuoa Lekota and Mluleki George will address any confusion created by people speaking for the ANC at meetings not arranged by the party.
The party says it cannot allow its structures to be used for purposes of undermining and betraying the organisation. The ANC will take similar action against any other members who plan to establish an opposition party.
ANC liaison officer Brian Sokuthu says the national working committee which meet in Bloemfontein decided to summarily suspend Mosiuoa Lekota and Mluleki George.
He added that this is in line with rule 25 point twelve of the ANC constitution which authorise the national working committee to suspend any ANC member pending the institution and conclusion disciplinary proceedings against them.
Sokuthu says the national working committee has decided to meet again tomorrow and give the matter further attention
