Following the recent changes to the National Executive of the Republic of South Africa, President Kgalema Motlanthe has appointed new members to serve on the board of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee of South Africa. This follows the resignations of former Minister in the Presidency Dr Essop Pahad, former Provincial and Local Government Minister Sydney Mufamadi and former deputy Finance Minister Jabu Moleketi.
2010 Government Spokesperson Tiyani Rikhotso says the new members are “Provincial and Local Government Minister Sicelo Shiceka, deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Sue van der Merwe, deputy Safety and Security Minister Susan Shabangu and Treasury Director-General Lesetja Kganyago.”
Rikhotso also said “we as government just want to thank the former members for their contribution to the preparations of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and we in government remain confident that South Africa will meet all the requirements.”
