In light of Team South Africa’s recent poor performance at the Olympic Games in Beijing, and the South African Paralympic Team’s comparatively good performance even in the midst of bad organising on the part of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympics Committee, spokesperson for the Democratic Alliance Lindiwe Mazibuko says the time has come for us to seek solutions to address the continued decline of South African sports in the international arena.
Today MP Donald Lee, DA Spokesperson for Sports & Recreation, and James Masango, DA Deputy Spokesperson for Sports, will present the DA’s new sports policy, “The Pursuit of Excellence”.
“Throughout the world, the countries which now set the bar for sporting excellence have all adopted, in one form or another, an academy of excellence - where their athletes receive the best training and have access to the best equipment. The DA believes that if the downward trend in our sports performance is to be reversed, then we need to follow international precedent by embracing the pursuit of excellence. Our new sports policy outlines in detail the DA’s plan in this regard.” says Mazibuko.
